United crashed out of the Champions League just before the international break as they fell back in the top four with below-average performances.

Rangnick’s side were beaten 4-1 by rivals Man City and have also drawn with Watford, Burnley and Southampton in recent weeks.

Matic, who has been at Old Trafford since 2017, spoke ahead of Saturday’s clash with Leicester, which you can listen to LIVE and EXCLUSIVELY on talkSPORT at 5.30pm.

The 33-year-old said: “The atmosphere? It depends on the results. Of course, when you have good results, the atmosphere is much better and everyone is happy.

“As you know we are not in the best position in the league and the atmosphere is not fantastic, but we have to stay positive and believe until the end because we want to finish in this top four.

“The mood in our dressing room will depend on it. If we finish in the top four, it will be good for us, everyone will be… I can’t say happy, but satisfied.

“If we don’t achieve that, it will be a very sad dressing room. “

Asked about the pressure of playing for one of the biggest clubs in world football, the Serb added: “When you play for a big club [like Manchester United] the pressure and expectations are high. We have to deal with that, of course.

“In our dressing room we have so many good players with good character and we have to accept that and we have to know that the pressure is normal.”

Various media claimed that the United dressing room were unhappy with caretaker boss Rangnick, but Matic insisted the team were behind him.

“He’s an experienced coach,” Matic continued. “We are working very hard to be honest with him.

“Of course, everyone knows that at the moment we don’t have the best results.

“He does his best and we try to follow his ideas. It is only at the end of the season, when we see the table and we see where we are, that we can talk about it more.

“At the moment what I can say is that Ralf and his team, and us as players, are doing our best.

“We have to win games. It’s simple. We have to follow the coach’s ideas, we have to work on that every day. Game by game to accumulate points.

“The next game is the most important for us at the moment, Leicester, we know it’s going to be tough.

“By the end of the season, only points matter to us. It doesn’t matter how we play, the most important thing is to win games.

The Red Devils are currently four points behind Arsenal in fourth place, who also have an extra game to play.

Matic had no illusions about the difficulty of regaining his place in the Champions League.

The experienced star added: “We have to finish in the top four, that’s our goal and we will do everything for it.

“I think we can get there. We will have to win almost every game until the end of the season. I think it is possible and we will do everything for it.
