Neeraj Chopra Live Javelin Throw Live Updates: Neeraj Chopra is currently in second place after the first five rounds of throwing. Neeraj’s best came in his second attempt as he threw a throw of 83.80m. All Indian fans will be focused on the Olympic champion’s event in the Diamond League 2023 as he aims to make history. Chopra, 25, lifted the Diamond League champion trophy in Zurich last year and he would be looking to do the same after dominating the season which saw him win his first world championship title in Budapest in August . If Chopra holds the trophy and pockets the $30,000 prize money at the Prefontaine Classic, he will become only the third man to defend the overall DL title, although the format changed in 2017.

    Chopra, the reigning Diamond League champion, world champion and Olympic champion, achieved his season best of 88.77m in the qualifying round in Budapest, the second best distance on the world list this year.

    As well as defending his title, he would also be looking to throw 90m for the first time, a distance which has eluded him until now. The Indian will return to Hayward Field where he won silver at the 2022 World Championships behind Granada’s Anderson Peters who will also be in action on Saturday.

    Chopra had become only the third javelin thrower in history to hold both the Olympic and world crowns after winning the world title in Budapest with a throw of 88.17m.

    Just days after winning the World Championships title, he competed at the Zurich DL stage on August 31 where he finished second behind Vadlejch, the first time Chopra could not finish in first place this season.

    Chopra, who has a personal best of 89.94m, won two individual DL meetings in Doha on May 5 and Lausanne on June 30 before clinching a historic gold medal at the World Championships.

    Between Doha and Lausanne, he suffered a groin strain in training, which kept him out of competition for almost a month.

    The Diamond League began in 2010, but the format of a winner-take-all grand final, played among the top six (top eight earlier) based on points accumulated in individual stages, was introduced in 2017. Before this, points from all series meetings were added with the grand final carrying twice that of the individual stages.

    Czech Vitezslav Vesely was DL champion in 2012 and 2013, while his compatriot Jakub Vadlejch, who is currently Chopra’s closest rival, did the same in 2016 and 2017.
