Nearly 40 people were shot, six fatally, in another violent weekend in Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s (D) Chicago.
Breitbart News noted that 11 people were shot, including four fatally, Friday through Saturday morning alone in Lightfoot’s Chicago.
Monday mornings, ABC 7 / Chicago Sun-Times reported that the weekend’s total for gunshot victims was 38, seven of whom had succumbed to their injuries.
Two men, one 30 and the other 31, were found fatally injured at 4 a.m. Sunday at a residence “in the 1300 block of South Harding Avenue.” Both men had been shot in the head and taken to hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
The Sun-Times’ The Chicago Homicide Database shows that 508 people were killed in the city from January 1, 2022 through September 25, 2022.
The ongoing violence in Chicago in 2022 comes after 2021 turned out to be the deadliest year the city has seen in a quarter century.
The Hill observed that Chicago police confirmed the city witnessed 797 homicides during 2021. And The Associated Press pointed out that the 797 homicides were “25 more than in 2020, 299 more than ‘ in 2019 and the most since 1996”.
