NCAA superstar is mistaken for Patrick Mahomes

Paolo Banchero is living his best life after deciding to leave the NCAA and enter the NBA Draft. However, during the F1 Grand Prix in Miami, a reporter mistook the superstar for the NFL’s Patrick Mahomes.

In major sporting events, the biggest stars of different sports often make an appearance to enjoy the festivities.

NCAA superstar Paolo Banchero was one of many famous athletes to compete in the first-ever F1 Miami Grand Prix.

While many stars were recognizable to the general public, Paolo Banchero was not so identifiable to an F1 journalist. During an interview, F1 journalist Martin Brundle confused the NCAA basketball superstar with another famous athlete.

Despite being one of the hottest athletes in college basketball, Banchero doesn’t quite have the world star power to gain immediate recognition.

Banchero is similar in some ways to the former NFL MVP and Super Bowl champion, so there’s logic to the reporter’s error.

Still, confusing the two seems like a difficult feat, given that they don’t really look alike. Banchero is also several inches taller than the NFL QB.

Either way, there are far worse athletes to confound than Patrick Mahomes. There will likely be some interaction between Paolo Banchero and Patrick Mahomes due to the incident.

Despite the awkwardness of the moment, Banchero took it in stride and then had fun on Twitter.

The awkward interaction could have ruined the F1 Grand Prix for the NBA Draft hopeful, but he appeared to be having fun with the moment. The college basketball star laughed off the incident on Twitter.

If anything, the moment between the two shows the difference in star power in college basketball, F1 and the NFL. A prominent F1 journalist has mistaken a college athlete for an NFL star.

Of the three people involved, Patrick Mahomes is the most followed. Martin Brundle follows in second position and Paolo Banchero has the smallest following at the moment.

Paolo Banchero wasn’t the only one enjoying the moment. His former NCAA team and Patrick Mahomes also had fun with the incident.

While the photos aren’t in the same light, the side-by-side comparison lines up perfectly with Mahomes’ conclusion.
