NBCUniversal Streaming Service Raises Prices

A price hike is coming to Peacock.

Streaming service NBCUniversal plans to increase monthly and annual fees for its Peacock Premium and Premium Plus tiers, with the changes expected to take effect before this summer’s Paris Olympics.

Peacock Premium will increase by $2 per month to $7.99, while Premium Plus will increase by $2 to $13.99. The annual fees will increase to $79.99 and $139.99, respectively.

The price changes will take effect on July 18 for new customers and from August 17 for existing subscribers. The opening ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games is scheduled for July 26.

The price increase will be the second in as many years for Peacock, which raised the price of its Premium tier by $1 a year ago, and Premium Plus by $2. Premium Plus removes ads from on-demand entertainment programs and includes live local channels from NBC, among other features.

However, the company is betting that it has a stronger value proposition this time, stemming from its exclusive NFL playoff game, the success of Oppenheimer, and the next Olympic Games. The company revamped its Olympic experience for this year’s games, adding multiview and a Gold zone whipping program to its roster, as well as a watch party hosted by Alex Cooper.

And Peacock will get another exclusive NFL game next season, when the Eagles and Packers face off in São Paulo, Brazil, on September 6.
