NBA G League Mexico franchise to play first season in the United States amid coronavirus restrictions

In 2019, the NBA and the G-League announced that the latter would expand to Mexico City.

The team, Capitanes, will be the 29th G-League program and the first based outside the United States or Canada, and are expected to begin their first season of play when the G-League season kicks off in the fall. .

However, the team will not play their inaugural season in Mexico as previously planned.

The Capitanes will be members of the G-League for at least the next five years and, when the game returns to Mexico, will play their home games at Gimnasio Juan de la Barrera in Mexico City.
