Nature Conservancy’s photo competition returned in 2021 after a one-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The winning photos feature breathtaking views of nature, including images of wildlife, underwater and landscapes chosen from a record 100,190 submissions from 158 countries. The jury included an avid singer-songwriter and photographer, Ben Folds.
British wildlife photographer Anup Shah won the Grand Prize for a photo of a western lowland gorilla walking through a cloud of butterflies in the Central African Republic. A photo of fireflies gathering around a tree before a monsoon by Prathamesh Ghadekar of India received the People’s Choice Award.
