Nation rallies around football league after backlash for Rafling Rifle

People across the country have rallied for North Carolina’s East Henderson Youth Football and Cheerleading League (EHYFC) after the league faced backlash for raffling off an AR-15 rifle to raise money for the equipment and supplies.

On September 5, Breitbart News reported that the EHYFC was raffling off an FN 15 and that an anonymous parent had criticized the decision to do so.

The New York Post noted that the parent told WLOS, “Honestly, I was shocked when I got the message that the kids were going to sell an assault rifle because of what is happening in schools across the country. I thought it was very bad taste for them to choose a weapon that is used against children.

FOX News quoted a mother who supports the league’s raffle, who said the unnamed parent’s words were compounded by news reports that put the league’s children “in more danger than selling tickets for a legal raffle.”

The mother said, “Our practice locations were featured in one article, other articles flagged us as schools in our area. We’ve had hate mail, nasty messages, uninformed opinions, pushbacks and even a local artist thought it would be cute to draw a comic trying to portray his version of how he thinks this raffle works .

However, the league members who organized the raffle held firm and the supportive mother said all the criticism and licentious reporting “was nothing compared to the love and encouragement we saw from everywhere in this great nation”.

The mother said support has started coming in from Texas and North and South Carolina so far, she says, “There aren’t a lot of states that we haven’t had in the least one person to contact.”

Those who reach out send messages of support and/or make donations.

The mother said, “We have far exceeded our goals and now have the ability to pass on these blessings to others in need. We have read all messages, transaction notes and emails that have come to us. Messages of support come from both retired and serving military, law enforcement officers, firefighters, other youth organization leaders, teachers, lawyers, entrepreneurs and grandparents trying to save our backward society.

The winner of the EHYFC raffle will be drawn on October 1st.
