Mysterious metal monolith shows up in Las Vegas after reappearing in Wales

A mysterious metal plaque that has become something of a pandemic craze has appeared on a Las Vegas hiking trail months after making its return to the public across the pond.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police posted about the structure on social media Monday, saying it was found near Gass Peak. The department urged anyone visiting the monolith to pay attention to the weather, tell someone of their hiking plans and stay hydrated.

Similar-looking monoliths have appeared in recent years as these mysterious structures have been spotted around the world since first appearing during the 2020 coronavirus pandemic. It first appeared in Utah before Similar structures are being spotted in places like California and Romania.

Originally, an anonymous art collective account called The Most Famous Artist took responsibility for the Utah and California installations. But the BBC reported in December 2020 that the account was not responsible for the one that appeared on the Isle of Wight.

“The monolith is beyond my control at this point,” the story then stated. “Good luck to all the hard-working aliens around the world spreading the myth.”

None of these structures have made headlines for a few years, but a monolith made a reappearance in the UK earlier this year. A structure was seen in Wales in March, according to the BBC.

It is not clear who is responsible for the new facilities.
