His next fight will be in Atlanta tonight under Jamel Herring’s card against Shakur Stevenson, but Ali Walsh is already considering international opportunities.

Muhammad Ali became an icon in the 1960s / 70s when he won the world heavyweight title three times and defended it around the world.

55 years ago, promoter Bob Arum entered the sport representing Ali.

Today, 55 years later, he is approaching 90 and has just signed Ali’s grandson.

Regardless of his controversial moral and political positions at home in the United States, Ali has always been warmly received in England.

And, after Arum reminds Ali Walsh of these stories, the youngster is eager to follow these most famous footsteps.

When asked if he hopes to ever fight in the UK, Ali Walsh told talkSPORT.com without hesitation: “Yeah.

“My grandfather – I mean, honestly – one of his biggest fan bases was the UK.

“I have gained tremendous respect for the UK.

“Bob Arum was actually telling me about his trip to the UK with my grandfather in the 1960s.

“When the world turned its back on my grandfather because of the decisions he made, the UK didn’t turn its back on him.

“Bob Arum told me that when they got out of their hotel there was a huge group of fans and photographers who always wanted to take pictures with my grandfather when no one else really wanted to.

“So Arum really wants me to fight in the UK and that’s where I want to fight too, someday.”
