A suspect committed suicide after a woman was found dead in her home.
At around 8 p.m. Saturday night, Michigan State Police soldiers were called to a house on North Seven mile Road in Missaukee County for a welfare check. When they arrived at the house, they found the owner, a 62-year-old woman who had died of an apparent murder, soldiers said.
No one else was in the house, but the soldiers tracked down a suspect and raised an alert for a 30-year-old man who was linked to the victim.
Just after 1 a.m., officers from the Cadillac Police Department located the suspect and attempted to arrest him. The suspect fled in his vehicle and officers pursued him. The suspect fired shots at the officers, but neither the officers nor their patrol car were hit.
Missaukee County Sheriff’s Deputies were assisting officers and deploying arresting sticks on M-55 near M-66 and disabled the suspect’s vehicle. The man got out of his vehicle and fled from the scene.
The MSP Canine and Aviation teams were deployed to help with the research.
At around 6 a.m., the suspect’s body was found near a golf course. Soldiers said the man died from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound.
They continue to investigate and try to notify family members.
