MSNBC’s Joy Reid shares how the Oz-Fetterman debate made her ‘more like Fetterman’

MSNBC host Joy Reid has defended Pennsylvania Lt. Gov. John Fetterman for his performance in the debate against Dr. Mehmet Oz, though many called it a disaster.

The “ReidOut” host initially only brought up the debate to refer to Fetterman’s comments on abortion. However, she expanded on the whole debate later in her segment, calling them a “Rorschach test” for people who watched it.

In his view, Reid explained that the debate was a brave and “bold” move by Fetterman who suffered a stroke in May and continues to display lingering issues.

“You know what, I think for a lot of people they’d rather have someone brave enough to risk embarrassment and risk the kind of pain of embarrassment to show ‘that’s me a little frail’. You know? Actually, for me, it was brave, and I felt like it made me like Fetterman more,” Reid said.

She continued, “Because he had the guts to go out there, and it shouldn’t have been easy. And he’s getting better. But he knows he was going to be a bit of a deficit. I think people would rather have that and someone that’s going to protect their rights and let them freedom and freedom than the other side that wants women to be the property of the state.”

Fetterman’s performance during the debate was criticized by conservatives and liberals alike as a disaster, with Fetterman often unable to articulate his answers.

Reid was unfazed and continued to support Fetterman and even attacked Georgia Senate candidate Herschel Walker for comparison.

“There are a lot of people who have had strokes. A lot of great senators, congressmen who are still in the Senate have had strokes,” Reid said.

She added: “All I remember from that debate is the audio clip we played about abortion. But the right is trying to use Fetterman by talking slowly as if Herschel Walker doesn’t exist. He didn’t even have a stroke. It’s me. I’m the bad guy who said that.

Other liberals in the media also defended Fetterman after his debate with several calling Oz a “tyrant” for his debate performance.

The hosts of “The View” also compared Fetterman to Walker.

“I just wanted to add to the Fetterman conversation, what makes Republicans think Herschel Walker is consistent and he didn’t have a stroke?” asked host Joy Behar.

The audience laughed at his comment while his co-host Sunny Hostin agreed “that’s a valid point.”
