MSNBC host Joy Reid argued that Republicans are now appealing to a pro-rape and pro-child marriage base.
On Tuesday, Reid tweeted a thread condemning the Republican Party, saying they were trying to reach for the “most lustful fears of white Christian parents” as a political strategy.
“The biggest and sickest irony of the @GOP’s new political strategy is that they are appealing to the most lustful fears of white Christian parents, while passing bills and maintaining alliances that normalize brides and rape as a legitimate means of procreation,” Reid said. tweeted.

The “rape as a legitimate means” is a reference to former U.S. Representative Todd Akin of Missouri who, in 2012, faced backlash for saying a woman’s body could terminate a pregnancy in a “legitimate rape”.
“If this is legitimate rape, the female body has ways of trying to stop it all,” Akin said.
His comment was condemned by Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and the party as a whole. He lost his 2012 election to the US Senate.
Reid also claimed that Republicans also “force women to be slaves of the state for childbirth” and “prohibit” the teaching of slavery.
