Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O’Donnell had a good laugh on the air Tuesday night after apparently uncovering an error on the front page of former President Donald Trump’s trial against his niece Mary Trump, the New York Times and three of his reporters .
The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in New York City, alleges the Times participated in an “insidious plot” with Mary Trump to obtain her private tax records, which were then used in her explosive reporting on her financial history, The Daily Beast reported. .
As she signed her program and handed it to O’Donnell, Maddow said she just received a copy of the lawsuit during the commercial break.
“But on the first page it says:” The actions of the defendants were motivated by a personal vendetta and their desire to gain notoriety, notoriety, praise and financial windfall and were more aimed at advancing their political agenda ” Maddow said. “Then it says this: ‘The brazen deeds of the accused cannot be underestimated.'”
“This is the first page of the trial! Cannot be underestimated. OKAY. How not to minimize the effrontery ?! I’m sorry, ”she added.
“He has lawyers who think like he does,” O’Donnell joked.
Trump’s lawyers pointedly meant that the impudence of the accused’s actions could not be overstated.
Trump is seeking damages of at least $ 100 million. Journalists named in lawsuit – Susanne Craig, David Barstow and Russ Buettner won a Pulitzer Prize in 2019 for their reporting on Trump and his company’s tax evasion story. Trump never disclosed his tax returns during his presidency, breaking the precedent and his own campaign promise.
When asked about the trial, Mary Trump told the Daily Beast that her uncle was acting out of desperation.
“I think he’s a fucking loser,” she said. “As always with Donald, he’s going to try to change the subject.”
