MSNBC host Joy Reid spoke with commentator Dean Obeidallah about Biden ratcheting up the heat in his rhetoric on MAGA Republicans on a show in early September.

Reid suggested that she and her guest had both faced backlash in the past for calling Republicans fascists, saying they had now been vindicated. “Dean Obeidallah, you and I have – you know, we’ve been called ‘crazy’ for saying ‘fascism,’ you know, and like Susan, we’ve been saying that for over a year. We’ve been saying that for a long time, bro, and I’m getting beat up for it.

Reid emphasized the idea that plain language should be used to assess political realities.

“But the reality is you have to call a thing by what it is and define the definition of it. The word MAGA means nothing but if you go back, that’s what the fascists said, ‘ Make America more beautiful’. It’s very difficult to escape it,” she warned.

She then observed that President Biden had refined his recent rhetoric against political opponents, saying he previously had a history of moderate rhetoric.

“How do you feel about Biden getting there?” she asked. “Biden is the most Biden-y Biden person in the world, which means he never wants to offend anyone. do you think that’s what maybe – I don’t know, what do you think about him finally getting to where we’ve been for a while?

Obeidallah joked that Biden had been inspired by reading his tweets, but suggested he had frequently warned his followers that the Republican Party was dangerous.

BIDEN SAYS ‘EXTREME’ MAGA PHILOSOPHY IS ‘LIKE SEMI-FASCISM’: ‘IT’S NOT JUST TRUMP’

“Daily reminder, today’s GOP is no longer a political movement,” Obeidallah warned. “It’s a fascist movement that has embraced white nationalism and wants to impose its religious beliefs as law. Boom. In short, we call it the GOP. That’s what we’re dealing with.”

He further added that the GOP is a threat to democracy in America itself, “We are dealing with a movement – as President Biden said, that political violence and worship is the way democracies die.”

Obeidallah also praised Biden for making a distinction between MAGA Republicans and the Republican Party as a whole.
