Police said Carrillo, 30, may have stolen a van in Bakersfield, Calif., Hours after the stabbing. She was taken into custody near Ponderosa in Tulare County and exhibited “erratic behavior”, police said. Investigators have not yet identified a motive.
“Obviously, they will have a long chat with this lady to try to understand what is going on in her mind,” said Lt. Raul Jovel. The Los Angeles Times, “These are the moments that we carry throughout our careers. It is difficult to deal with this as a police officer.
Elizabeth Cuevas, who lives in the apartment above where the bodies were found, told the Time she never saw the police respond to calls from the unit. She said she often heard the cartoon sounds emanating from the apartment, often late at night.
“Someone slammed over there, and they slammed in the wrong direction,” she says.
One of the children often asked to pet Cuevas’ dog. She believes the trio consisted of two boys and a girl, with the boys being the oldest and the youngest.
“He was a perfect little angel. She was precious beyond what you could imagine, ”Cuevas told the Time. “An angel shouldn’t have to go this way.”
Dayna Campbell, a resident of the Carrillo neighborhood, told NBC, “My heart is broken. Whenever I see news of children like this, my heart breaks to pieces. And now it’s like right in front of my apartment building – it’s amazing.
