Morocco’s Sofiane Boufal scored seven minutes from time to secure a 1-0 victory over Ghana in their Africa Cup of Nations Group C opener on Monday.
Boufal hammered from close range after a wild run into Zakaria Aboukhlal’s penalty area, only to be checked by Ghanaian Thomas Partey, with the ball then working perfectly for Boufal to score.
The goal came on a rare occasion in a game where both teams showed defensive prowess but did little to impress on offense.
The victory allows Morocco to take the lead of the group with Gabon, who beat the Comoros 1-0, also on Monday.
Morocco will face Comoros on Friday at 4 p.m., while Ghana face Gabon in the other Group C clash later today at 7 p.m. Both games are live Sky Sports Football.
