The Shrimps and Shrimpers shared the loot as Morecambe and Southend drew 1-1 at Mazuma Stadium.
Timothee Dieng’s 18th-minute goal gave the visiting visitors the advantage only for Cole Stockton to earn a point for the home side, who were looking for a win to take them into the automatic promotion spots.
Southend started the game well and took a deserved lead in the 18th minute when a right-wing cross from Elvis Bwomono split Morecambe’s defense and Dieng found himself in space to pass Kyle Letheren.
Morecambe then struggled to find his way back into the game as the visitors packed their defense and made a series of beautiful blocks.
Stockton went close with a shot on the turn from the edge of the zone and Harry Davis curled a header over the bar from a good opening.
But the home side looked much sharper after the break and equalized with a stunning 25-yard volley from Stockton that beat goalkeeper Mark Oxley low to his left.
Morecambe pushed for the winner, with Aaron Wildig and John O’Sullivan pulling the bar and Oxley cleverly saving from Stockton, but Southend retained a good point as they continued their fight for the safety of the Football League.
