More than 200 Baltimore City firefighters battle stage 5 structure fire in downtown

The Baltimore City Fire Department is battling a level five structure fire in the city’s downtown area, according to Fire Chief Wallace.

Wallace said that on September 22 at approximately 9:26 a.m., crews were dispatched to reports of a building fire in the area of ​​Lombard and Eutaw Street.

When he arrived, Wallace said there was thick smoke coming in.

The fire immediately went to a level 2 alarm at 9:33 a.m. At 9:40 a.m. it went to a level 3 alarm, at 9:51 a.m. it went to a level 4 alarm, and then at 10:00 a.m. it went to a level 5 alarm.

Five commercial buildings and one residential apartment were affected, the chief said.

Wallaces says more than 200 firefighters are currently deployed. The fire is contained but not yet under control.

So far, no injuries have been reported.

It is too early to say whether all the buildings affected by the fire are total losses, but the damage is significant.

The investigation into the cause is ongoing.
