‘Morally right’ – Danny Murphy thinks Russia should be replaced in European Women’s Championship and World Cup as violence rages in Ukraine

Russia should not be allowed to participate in any type of tournament and should be “replaced” according to Danny Murphy.
The former Liverpool midfielder spoke about White and Jordan and said it would be the ‘right thing’ to ‘dissociate’ from the country.
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, led by President Vladimir Putin, has drawn widespread condemnation from all walks of life.
Following the dispute, UEFA deprived the country of the Champions League final and Formula 1 declared that there would be no Grand Prix in Sochi this season.
The situation in Eastern Europe is constantly evolving, and the latest news has brought some positivity with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich trying to broker peace between the two nations.
Until the violence stops in Ukraine, however, Murphy believes sanctions should be imposed on Russia.
“I think most of us agree that it would be beneficial, and morally, to dissociate from the country all together in any sporting event,” he said.
“It doesn’t necessarily mean that all Russian footballers agree with what Putin is doing of course.

“We accept that, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but unfortunately drastic measures must be taken.”
Murphy then added that another nation should take their place in the next European Women’s Championship and in the World Cup.
“You just have to replace them,” he added on hearing that Russia had been drawn against Sweden, Switzerland and the Netherlands for the tournament to be held in England this year.
