Mom of three shows strength while battling breast cancer | New

NASHVILLE (WSMV) – A 54-year-old mother of three refused to quit when diagnosed with aggressive triple negative breast cancer.

Jennifer Rose wasn’t ready to slow down her life any time soon. With no history of cancer in her family, Rose was shocked and devastated by her diagnosis.

“Full shock mode,” Rose said, discussing her diagnosis. “My youngest child was getting ready to start his senior year in high school and I said to Dr. Park, ‘You know August is a very busy month for me, could we wait and start in September? And he looked at me and he said, ‘I’m trying to save your life’ and … just the enormity of it really shook me deep inside. “

Rose’s chemo sessions began immediately. Now, with several treatments and surgeries behind her, she has described the stress and anxiety of all the trauma.

“The emotional part is really tough,” Rose said. “I’m… still taking care of it.”

A true emotional struggle, Rose always works hard every day to try to have a positive attitude. She finds support with the organization Breast Cancer Recovery in Action (BRA).

“No one should get cancer on their own,” BRA executive director Nancy Brown said. “There is a support group of other women, and you need that support group other than your family and friends who are there for you but not sure what to say or do often.”

The group offers emotional, mental and physical help. Rose said this support is crucial in her life.

“It’s about teaching people how to take advantage of this waking moment and start to understand that self-care is important and here’s how you can do it,” Brown said. “And after your diagnosis, it can be done safely.”

Rose said, “To be with women who understand what you’re going through, they don’t judge you if you’re having a bad day. If you need to speak up, they will listen to you and offer you support and encouragement.”
