Mohammad Kaif has picked Indian ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah and Pakistani all-format skipper Babar Azam as standout players for the Asian contingent in modern cricket. Kaif also cited why he named the two players in particular, instead of choosing popular names such as Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni.
The game of cricket has seen many top crickets soar over the past decade. The sport, with the change of formats, has evolved so fast, and that has helped to improve the players even more, mentally and tactically. It would be very difficult to choose the best among them, and Mohammad Kaif was asked to answer this question by Sportskeeda.
Many could have predicted that Kaif would appoint Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni — two of India’s, if not the world’s, most popular cricketer names in the past 10 years — as the top two players in the Asian contingent. But surprisingly, Kaif did not follow suit. He named India’s fast bowler ace Jasprit Bumrah, and Pakistani all-format skipper Babar Azam as the best in the subcontinent, and also gave an explanation of their selection. Kaif felt Bumrah’s “calm” nature and Babar’s consistency made them two of the best in the world in the modern era.
“It’s tough but I like Bumrah. People talk a lot about the hitters from Kohli to Dhoni…they’re all great players but someone like Bumrah, he’s very calm, cool and composed and delivers under pressure as we have seen over the past few years. He has become an all-format player. His arrival has helped India improve their overseas test winning percentage,” Kaif told Sportskeeda.
“Pakistan have real talent and a fantastic player. Babar Azam is there. I like Shaheen Afridi. But I would suggest Babar. He has played very well and been in good form, scoring well all the time. quite appreciated for his performances, but for Pakistan he was once a brilliant player.”
