Mitt Romney criticizes Donald Trump as he refuses to run for re-election


Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) lashed out at former President Donald Trump and criticized him for his lack of “leadership” during his announcement Wednesday that he would not seek re-election in 2024.

Romney criticized Trump for calling global warming a “hoax” in a video statement he released. Romney also said that “neither President Biden nor former President Trump is leading their party to confront” the “critical challenges” facing the country, such as “the growing national debt, climate change and ambitious authoritarians of the Russia and China.

“President Biden is underinvesting in the military and President Trump is underinvesting in our alliances,” Romney added. “Political motivations too often stand in the way of the solutions these challenges require. »

Romney later said Policy that while he is “not a Biden supporter,” he “cannot vote for Donald Trump.”

Trump celebrated the news of Romney’s decision not to run for reelection, posting on Truth Social:

Mitt Romney, sometimes called Pierre Delecto, will not seek a second term in the US Senate, where he has not served with distinction. “I don’t see leadership coming from either person,” Romney said. Policy. “Now I might blame myself if we end up nominating anyone in my party besides Trump”

The Utah senator also said his generation was “taking the wool over the younger generation” by increasing the national debt.

Romney was interrupted five minutes into his interview with Policy by a call from President Joe Biden.

“There are certain calls you have to make,” Romney said after “speaking with the president for what appeared to be a friendly, upbeat conversation,” according to the outlet.
