The incident happened well off the ball in the first half of the Knights’ clash with the Penrith Panthers when Smith got in the way of Barnett, who was running towards the right corner of the pitch in an attempt to stopping a Panthers try.

Referee Peter Gough immediately gave Barnett his marching orders, with commentators also agreeing with the call.
“It’s disgusting!” senior commentator Warren Smith said on the Fox League cover.
“What an absolute brain blast. It’s as cheap as it gets.”
“It’s ugly and it’s stupid. He will spend a lot of time on the sidelines,” added NRL great Cooper Cronk.
