Missouri Highway Patrol resumes search for missing boater who dived in Smithville Lake

Members of the Missouri Highway Patrol have resumed their search for a missing boater who dived into Smithville Lake to retrieve an object that had fallen overboard, a spokesperson said Monday.

The woman, who is believed to be in her 30s and originally from the Kansas City area, disappeared underwater around 4 p.m. Sunday and has not resurfaced, the staff sergeant said. Bill Lowe, Missouri Highway Patrol A-Troop spokesperson.

“We didn’t determine if after diving she hit her head or what happened,” Lowe said. “She hasn’t resurfaced.”

The ship she was in struck an underwater object as it slowly made its way to a boat launch near the Collins Road Bridge, Highway Patrol said.

Rescuers suspended his search after dark on Sunday, Lowe said. The search resumed around 7:30 am Monday.
