Six people were injured in a boat explosion on Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri, including three children, authorities said on Tuesday.
The explosion occurred at around 1:40 p.m. CT on a 26-foot boat that was moored in the Osage Arm of the lake, according to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Investigators said a mechanical problem with the 2007 Sea Ray Sun Deck caused a “fuel fire”.
Five people, including a 12-year-old and another 16, were seriously injured, according to the state agency. The injuries to a 2-year-old boy were described as minor.
Four people were transported to the Lake Regional Hospital, while two were airlifted to the University Hospital.
No further details, including the conditions of the victims, were immediately available.
Lake of the Ozarks is a popular summer destination in central Missouri, about 55 miles southwest of Jefferson City.
