The captain of the XV of France Antoine Dupont and Grégory Alldritt paid tribute to Thomas, a young rugby player from RC Romans-Péage, killed last weekend during a party in his village of Crépol (Drôme).
Antoine Dupont, the icon of French rugby, paid tribute to young Thomas, 16, cowardly killed during a festive evening in the village of Crépol on the night of Saturday and Sunday.
The captain of the French team, affected like the entire country, shared on his Instagram story the publication of RC Romans-Péage dated November 19, 2023: “What can we say in the face of the barbarity and the tragedy that affects us this morning, voiced young Thomas’ rugby club. The club is touched in its flesh on November 19. Sport seems very futile to us. The players came together and decided to honor Thomas’ memory by playing through the sadness to pay tribute to him.” Leader of the French XV and captain of La Rochelle, Grégory Alldritt also shared the publication to honor the memory of the young rugby player tragically killed.
The investigation is progressing, the main suspect was prohibited from carrying a weapon
As a reminder, nine suspects were arrested as part of the investigation surrounding the young man’s death. Individuals aged 16 to 22, who have been in police custody since Thursday for “murder” and “tattempted murders by an organized gang. The public prosecutor in charge of the case transmitted other information: eight of the suspects were born in Romans-sur-Isère, the last being a native of Italy. Laurent de Caigny, the Valence prosecutor, also indicated that six searches had taken place this Thursday. The main suspect, the one who allegedly stabbed Thomas to death, was arrested in Toulouse. Aged 20, he had already been convicted twice for concealment of theft and illegal carrying of a category D weapon and was banned from carrying a weapon for two years since September 25, again according to the prosecutor of the Republic.
Although the circumstances of the tragedy remain to be determined, several elements are already known by investigators. It was in front of the village hall in Crépol, a village north of the Drôme, that a fight broke out around 1:30 a.m. on the night of Saturday to Sunday during the winter ball which welcomed 300 to 400 people. As the evening was about to end, around ten young people wanted to enter. The security guards present for the security of the event refused, causing the start of hostilities. According to witnesses on site met by France Bleu Drôme Ardèche, the individuals took out knives, before attacking one of the security guards. In the end, 17 people were injured in this very violent scuffle, which led to the death of Thomas, who was part of a group of young people inside who came to help the security guards in front of the village hall.
On BFM TV, Philippe Saint-André reacted strongly when the teenager died. The former player and coach of the XV of France played in the same club as Thomas and paid tribute to him: “Thomas was killed in a barbarity. Imagine, we are the parent of a 16-year-old child who goes to a village festival… I too went to this ball in Crépol, which is a quiet village. You leave to dance, to laugh, perhaps for your first flirtation… and you don’t come home. It’s terrible.”
