Mikel Arteta offers positive update on Arsenal injured list after Bukayo Saka and Takehiro Tomiyasu scare

Tomiyasu made his first Premier League start since January following a lengthy calf problem but was replaced by Cedric Soares after picking up the injury in the 78th minute.

Saka, meanwhile, was replaced by Emile Smith Rowe for the final minutes at the London Stadium and looked uncomfortable in the closing stages.

Ben White missed the game with a tight hamstring, although hopefully his issue isn’t serious.

Arteta, who has already lost Kieran Tierney and Thomas Partey to injury concerns during the break-in, provided a positive update on his players after the match.

“Ben got injured against Manchester United, he felt a muscle problem and we got him under control, and we’ll have to visit him in the next few days to see how he’s doing,” he said.

“Bukayo was fine, he was really tired and he also suffered a small injury. Tomiyasu just said he was out for so long and he couldn’t continue.

Arsenal are next in action when they host Leeds United on Sunday, a day after Tottenham’s four main rivals traveled to Liverpool.

The two north London heavyweights will then meet on Thursday May 12 in what looks like a straight shootout to determine who will qualify for next season’s Champions League.
