Mike Tyson has always been a boxing historian and throughout his roller coaster career has often paid tribute to the great champions who came before him.
Even now, retired as he took his place among these legends, “Iron Mike” still seems upset whenever the icons of the sport are not respected.
At the end of his career, Floyd Mayweather proclaimed himself “TBE” – the best of all time.
He made this bold claim based on the fact that he retired undefeated with a perfect 50-0 record, surpassing that of former heavyweight champion Rocky Marciano who left the sport at 49-0.
Mike, 54, disagrees with Mayweather’s logic, who is now 44.
Speaking on his Hotboxin ‘podcast in 2019, Tyson said, “Floyd is a great fighter, don’t get me wrong. He had 50 fights.
“Look, Sugar Ray Robinson has had 40 fights. He lost one and then went on to have a 78-game winning streak.
“Forty, one lost, then a 78-game winning streak, damn.
“[Julio Cesar Chavez Sr] was 89-0 before losing.
“Don’t talk to me about ‘You are the greatest fighter’ with 50-0.
“You’re great, no doubt about it, but 50-0? Chavez had 90.
“He was fighting like, what? Eight times a year? Against the one who was in the standings.
“He wasn’t choosing, it was ‘Whoever you want, come on.'”
Mayweather was also recently passed by WBC strawweight champion Wanheng Menayothin, but he has now been beaten and is 54-1.
The retired legends are now making money from exhibitions, with Tyson fighting Roy Jones Jr last year and Mayweather taking on YouTuber Logan Paul.
