NEW YORK (AP) – Former Vice President Mike Pence has a book deal. His currently untitled autobiography is due out in 2023.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to tell the story of my life in public service to the American people, to serve in Congress, in the office of the Governor of Indiana and as the Vice President of the United States. “Pence said in a statement. “I look forward to working with the exceptional team at Simon & Schuster to take readers on a trip from a small town in Indiana to Washington, DC.”
Simon & Schuster said on Wednesday they had also signed Pence for a second book but did not immediately provide details. Pence is the first senior Trump administration official to announce a deal since the president stepped down in January, although former White House adviser Kellyanne Conway and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo do. part of those who would work on the books.
A Pence memoir will likely be subject to similar tensions that the former vice president has faced since turning down then-President Donald Trump’s demands to help overturn the election results. Among Democrats and others who have opposed Trump, Pence is widely seen as Trump’s staunch ally and accomplice. Meanwhile, Trump supporters, and Trump himself, have denounced him for failing to intervene on Jan.6 in Congressional official certification of Democrat Joe Biden’s presidential victory.
Certification – which Pence had no power to change – was delayed for hours after hundreds of Trump supporters, some chanting “Hang Mike Pence,” stormed the U.S. Capitol.
Simon & Schuster, vice president and publisher, Dana Canedy, said Pence’s book would be “revealing,” without specifically specifying whether it would address the events of January 6.
“The life and work of Vice President Pence, his journey as a Christian, the challenges and triumphs he faced, and the lessons he learned, tells the American story of public service.” extraordinary at a time when the unparalleled public interest in our government and our politics is unmatched, ”Canedy said. “His revealing autobiography will be the definitive book on one of the most important presidencies in American history.”
