Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) leads Never Trumper and independent Utah Senate candidate Evan McMullin by double digits, shattering establishment media narratives that this Senate race is closer than it seems. It looks like it, according to an internal Lee campaign poll.
Breitbart News obtained an internal campaign poll from Lee that found Lee leading McMullin by 19 points, or 52-33%, with 10% of voters remaining undecided. The survey also found that Lee also leads among Republicans at 70% and is tied with McMullin on independent voters at 44%. McMullin only leads with Democratic voters at 60%, compared to Lee’s 2% support among Democrats.
The Lee campaign poll crushes a media account from the Deseret News, which polled the outlet and the Hinckley Institute of Politics. The survey found Lee ahead of McMullin by just 4% or 41-37%.
Dan Jones & Associated conducted the survey of 810 registered voters in Utah from May 24 through June 4 and has a margin of error of 3.46%.
The Lee campaign poll conducted by WPA Intelligence polled likely voters, rather than registered voters like the Deseret News poll, suggesting that WPA Intelligence may better reflect Utah’s enthusiasm for Lee rather than McMullin.
McMullin spokeswoman Kelsey Koenen Witt took the Deseret News poll to show the Senate could be up for grabs.
“It divides and polarizes. Time and time again he has embarrassed our state and failed to deliver on his promises. Utahns can do better,” Koenen Witt said. “We are working hard to bring voters together to find solutions and we will continue to build this coalition through Election Day and beyond.”
Matt Lusty, a spokesperson for Lee’s campaign, disputed McMullin’s account, saying their internal polls show Lee has a strong lead over McMullin.
“As McMullin tries to appease Democrats over Roe v. Wade, create new restrictions on the Second Amendment and otherwise show support for Joe Biden’s agenda, Republicans and independents alike will see through his rhetoric of trying to be everything to everyone. Lusty explained.
McMullin’s support among Democrats, as shown by the Lee/WPA Intelligence poll, should come as no surprise, given that McMullin said he would vote against pro-life legislation if elected to the Senate.
McMullin claimed the overthrow roe deer would lead to “extreme” pro-life laws across the country that could “target women.”
Unlike McMullin, Lee called the potential decision to be overturned roe deer a “masterfully written” decision.
WPA Intelligence was conducted on behalf of the Lee campaign, surveying 552 Republican primary voters, 300 likely voters, and had a 4.4% margin of error. The survey was conducted between June 14 and 16.
