The Chelsea keeper came to his side on several occasions on Saturday night to help secure a 1-0 win at Brentford, at the last moment of a momentous year.
After the Blues’ victory, which brought them back to the top of the Premier League table, injured defender Rudiger tweeted his reaction.
He wrote: “Someone is explaining why he is not nominated for the Ballon d’Or.
“What a performance … EDOUARD MENDY.”
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel hopes Mendy won’t be put off by his absence from the shortlist of 30 players, which includes Blues stars Mason Mount, Jorginho, Cesar Azpilicueta and N’Golo Kante – as well as the Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Tuchel said: “I hope he doesn’t mind, because it doesn’t bother me too much. He’s not too influenced by that.
“I think we could be on this list as a whole team, we won this competition as a team.
“If we have five names or six names, it doesn’t matter. We won the Champions League with 21, 23 guys, everyone played their part.
“Today we still counted on him a lot today, he’s the guy who plays so well for us and we are so happy. So, it’s all right.
