Memorial Day 2022 sales hit by inflation, but shoppers can still score big deals on outdoor gear, apparel and tech

Memorial Day weekend is the perfect time to host a barbecue, but it’s also the perfect reason to invest in a grill!

Despite supply chain shortages and inflation concerns, shoppers can find great Memorial Day 2022 sales on summer items if they know where to look.

Unfortunately, this year’s deals won’t be the sweetest, said Patrick Penfield, a supply chain management expert.

“It’s because of inflation,” Penfield told “Good Morning America.” “Things that will lack demand [will be] anything for the outdoors — your grills, your lawn mowers, your patio furniture. Those are missing.”

Penfield said shoppers looking for garden items should grab any deals they can find, even if the discount is low.

These sales include $100 off Nexgrill propane gas grills at Home Depot and 50% off Allen + Roth patio chairs at Lowes.

The good news? Devices in short supply earlier this year are becoming more readily available as supply chain issues ease, meaning more deal opportunities.

The discounts include $370 off LG washing machines at Best Buy.

“The sale items are going to be on major appliances — your refrigerators, washer-dryers, dishwashers,” WalletHub analyst Jill Gonzalez said. “Right now, retailers want to take the old models … off their sales floors and bring in the new models.”

Consumers will also find a bit of price movement with the technology, like Apple AirPods on sale at Amazon for $149, $30 off its original price.

Clothing is also seeing deals: J.Crew’s select children’s clothing is up to 50% off, and The Gap is offering 40% off all purchases through Wednesday.

Still, with core prices still at sky-high levels, experts are advising shoppers to hold off on shopping this summer if possible.
