Melissa Barrera fired from ‘Scream VII’ – The Hollywood Reporter

Melissa Barrera no longer stars in Cry VII. The actor was dropped from the project after a series of social media posts following the Israel-Hamas war.

“Gaza is currently being treated like a concentration camp,” she wrote in an article. “We’re putting everyone together, with nowhere to go, no electricity, no water… People haven’t learned anything from our history. And just like our history, people continue to silently watch everything that happens. THIS IS GENOCIDE AND ETHNIC CLEANSE.

Spyglass, the company behind the Shout franchise, made no comment.

Barrera helped revitalize the franchise with Shout, the 2022 feature film that grossed $137.7 million worldwide and combined multiple generations of franchise members. Barrera’s Sam Carpenter was the protagonist of this film and the older sister of Jenna Ortega’s Tera. Barrera starred in Scream VIreleased in March and exceeding 168.9 million at the worldwide box office.

Happy death day filmmaker Christopher Landon takes the helm of Cry VII from the filmmakers Radio Silence. Filming had not begun and development had been slow due to actors’ and writers’ strikes. Now, Spyglass is expected to recalibrate its plans after Barrera. Paramount handled distribution for recent installments and is expected to return for the new installment.

More soon.
