Meghan Markle has explained why she and Prince Harry are now speaking in a new clip from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s upcoming interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Gayle King featured the video on ‘CBS This Morning’ on Friday, saying it would show why Meghan and Harry ‘didn’t feel free to speak frankly earlier’.
The clip shows Winfrey bringing up the subject with Meghan: “ I called you either in February or March 2018 before the wedding asking, ‘Would you like to do an interview with me’ and you said, ‘I’m sorry, this n now is not the right time. ”
“I wasn’t even allowed to have the conversation with you personally,” Meghan replied.
“What’s right about this time?” Oprah asked.
“Well, so many things. That we’re on the other side of a lot, a lot of life experiences that have happened, ”Meghan said. “And also that we have the ability to make our own choices in a way that I couldn’t have said yes to you back then, it wasn’t my choice to make.”
In another excerpt from the interview released earlier this week, Winfrey asked the Duchess, “What do you think of the palace hearing you speak your truth today?”
“I don’t know how they could expect that after all this time we would just stay silent if there is an active role The Firm is playing in perpetuating the lies about us,” Meghan said in the teaser. , published Wednesday.
“And if that carries a risk of losing things, I mean – there’s already a lot that has been lost,” she added.
CBS told HuffPost in a statement earlier this month that Oprah spoke with Meghan about “her entry into Royal life, marriage, motherhood, philanthropic work and how she manages life under a intense public pressure ”, during the interview.
Later in the interview, Meghan is joined by Prince Harry, and the two discuss “their move to the United States and their future hopes and dreams for their growing family,” CBS said.
The two-hour prime-time special will air Sunday at 8 p.m. on CBS.
