Meghan Markle and Harry are set to be deposed after judge rejects request for delay in half-sister’s trial
Meghan Markle was this week denied a motion to stay discovery in a defamation lawsuit brought by her estranged half-sister Samantha Markle over the Duchess of Sussex’s tell-all 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Meghan Markle ‘does not show that unusual circumstances justify the requested stay, or that any prejudice or undue burden will result if the Court does not impose a stay,’ Florida Judge Charlene Edwards Honeywell said in papers on Tuesday. legal proceedings obtained by Fox News Digital.
Markle had requested a stay of discovery in the case “pending resolution” on her motion to dismiss the lawsuit, but her sister argued that Markle was simply trying to delay the case.
Honeywell agreed that “some of the claims against it may be ripe” for the case to be dismissed, but said it did not meet the “high standard” to remain uncovered.

She added that there was an “immediate and clear possibility” that the case would be dismissed, but said the likelihood of a dismissal is not a reason to put discovery on hold.
Earlier this week, Samantha Markle demanded that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry be dropped off in separate interviews. Neither would have to be questioned if the case was dismissed.
The documents state that “to date, the Duchess has not agreed to schedule a single deposition.”
Samantha has sued Markle for allegedly making “false” statements in her interview with Winfrey. She accused her of defamation “based on manifestly false and malicious statements” made during the March 7, 2021 encounter. Samantha alleged that the Duchess’ “lies” were “designed to destroy [her] reputation” and subjected her to “humiliation, shame and hatred on a global scale”.
Samantha wants the former ‘Suits’ star to admit she lied about their sibling relationship and upbringing to sell a ‘rags to royalty’ story. She alleged Markle lied about being an “only child”, as well as when they last saw each other. Samantha claimed Markle falsely said the older brother changed his last name to Markle after he started dating Harry.

Fox News Digital has reached out to Meghan Markle’s attorney, Michael Kump, for comment.
Last year, he told Fox News Digital, “This baseless and senseless lawsuit is just the continuation of a disturbing pattern of behavior. We’ll give it the minimum amount of attention it needs, that’s all it takes.” ‘he deserves,’ Kump said at the time.
