McDonald’s customers have been left furious with the fast food chain over ‘skinny’ offerings in its new $5 deal – and the fact the promotion will only last for a month.
The Chicago-based company will launch the $5 combo meal on June 25 for a McDouble or McChicken sandwich with small fries, four pieces of Chicken McNuggets and a small soft drink.
The promotion will be discontinued at the end of July.
X user Mason Gunn wrote: “A $5 meal is coming but only for 1 month?? No thanks! You want to lure us in and hope we stay and you want to pay your insanely high prices? No chance!”
Another X user, Michelle Sanford, wrote: “Unfortunately, what McDonalds doesn’t seem to get is that their everyday price should be non-special.” »
Sanford accused the company of making “one of its lowest-selling items, due to its discounted price, at a special price.”
An X user named Rodney said McDonald’s offering fell short of the competition.
“So McDonald’s is offering a $5 meal for a month. This won’t help unless they make it permanent, as Wendy’s already has several meal deals starting at $5,” Rodney wrote.
Marcia Holt, another X user, agreed, writing: “That doesn’t really seem like a commitment to their customers to me.” Putting it on the menu and leaving it there feels like a commitment.
A McDonald’s spokesperson told the Post: “We know how much it means to our customers when McDonald’s delivers significant value and communicates it through national advertising. This has been true since our beginnings and it has never been more important than today.
The company said 90% of McDonald’s franchisees offer meal plans for $4 or less.
The high levels of inflation that have hit the economy in recent years have forced companies like McDonald’s to raise the prices of their menus.
In some locations, McDonald’s charges $18 for a Big Mac meal as well as $7.29 for an Egg McMuffin.
In its latest earnings report, McDonald’s reported a global slowdown in sales growth for the fourth consecutive quarter as budget-conscious consumers stayed away.
“I think it’s important to recognize that all income groups are looking for value,” CEO Chris Kempczinski said on a post-earnings call.
Kempczinski said McDonald’s faces the challenge of attracting “very discerning” consumers who are careful about “how they spend their money.”
“We have seen that our relative affordability superiority has diminished in some markets,” Kempczinski added.
McDonald’s shares were trading slightly down 0.6% midday Friday.
