Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar will miss the next six to eight weeks after sustaining an injury.
The Brazilian striker was substituted late against Saint-Etienne following a challenge that left him with ankle damage.
The club confirmed the news and issued a statement detailing the extent of the injury.
“The examinations carried out last night confirm that Neymar Jr suffered from a sprained left ankle with ligament injury,” said PSG.
“An unavailability of 6 to 8 weeks is to be expected. A new update will be made in 72 hours to clarify the diagnosis.
After the game, coach Mauricio Pochettino had hoped the injury was not too serious.
“We hope it’s nothing too serious and that he can come back to help the team as soon as possible,” he said.
The Argentine admitted the club are worried and unfortunately for the PSG boss he will now be without one of his star men for the foreseeable future.
