Matthew Perry’s tragic death was not the result of a fentanyl or methamphetamine overdose, according to initial tests.
The beloved actor, who was catapulted to global stardom after landing a role on “Friends,” died Saturday following an apparent drowning at his California home. He was 54 years old.
Law enforcement sources told TMZ that investigators conducted a less thorough test on the actor, revealing he had no fentanyl or methamphetamine in his system at the time of his death.
Further toxicology testing is currently being conducted, which can take months to establish an official cause of death.
Additionally, the cause of death was “deferred.”
The Post has contacted the Los Angeles Police Department for comment.
Sources told the outlet that prescription drugs were found at the property and would be part of the examination, which is standard practice.
The Post confirmed that officials received a phone call reporting that the late actor was in his hot tub and not breathing.
The identity of the caller has not been released by authorities, although TMZ reported that it was Perry’s assistant, who called after he returned home.
