Matt Hardy had a great idea for a faction to go to war with D-Generation X in WWE.
In the first episode of his new podcast, The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, Hardy revealed that he had already launched a faction of The Hardy Boyz, Edge and Christian to go to war with D-Generation X. It ended up giving birth to Hardy’s Character V1 instead:
“I think Vince knew me, my brother, Edge and Christian were going to be hugely respected, people dug into our work ethic and we did some revolutionary stuff that night,” said Matt Hardy. (…) “In the future, I actually pitched at the start, my idea was to have us together as a group and work against DX, and I wanted our group to be version 1 of the Hardys and Edge and Christian. This is first where I came up with the concept of version 1, version 1 of the prototype wrestlers that you’re going to see in the future. It didn’t end up happening. “
Did the Hardy Boyz recover organically in WWE?
While the faction never happens, Hardy believes both teams recovered organically when they were in WWE. He went on to mention how harder it is to “make” stars in front of today’s wrestling audience.
“I think it was really smart, and I imagine it was a call from Vince,” Matt Hardy said. “Vince was reading the play correctly (…) There were always times when WWE would push someone and they would force or make some type of superstar on the fans, and sometimes they would buy into it. We’re getting into that time when enough of people understand the struggle that they can’t really make a superstar, it has to happen organically. ”
