Female staff members of Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) Intervened in his defense Thursday without really taking his defense.
So far, most of the GOPs have not publicly backed Gaetz, with the exception of Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) And, timidly, the former President Donald Trump.
On Thursday, as reports circulated that Joel Greenberg, a key figure in the Gaetz investigation was considering a plea deal, a group calling themselves the “women in the office of US Congressman Matt Gaetz” issued a statement defending him as “a principled and morally grounded leader.”
However, Wyant did not sign the statement, nor any of the other female staff who allegedly support Gaetz:
After last week’s shocking allegations in the press, we, the women in Congressman Matt Gaetz’s office, feel morally obligated to speak up. During Congressman Gaetz’s tenure, we have been behind the scenes every step of the way. We have organized its meetings. We have planned its events. We traveled with him.
And we followed his schedule. Congressman Gaetz has always been a principled and morally grounded leader. At no time have any of us experienced or witnessed anything less than the utmost professionalism and respect. No hint of impropriety. No ounce of lies.
In our office and under the leadership of Congressman Gaetz, women are not only respected, but they have been encouraged time and again to grow, accomplish more, and ultimately know our worth. Many of us started out in entry-level positions and were promoted to managerial positions within the office. In our professional ecosystem, women have every chance to grow and use our talents to help the country in the best possible way.
At every opportunity, he treated each of us with respect. Thus, we consistently reject these claims as false.
Congressman Gaetz will continue to lead by example and defend the American people who have been maligned by the liberal elite. And we will stay with him. As we recognize the scrutiny we will face in making this decision, we take comfort in the hope that more Americans and elected officials will stand up and refuse to remain silent.
Many Twitter users have also decided not to remain silent on this statement.
maybe it’s a group name?

This statement was not signed by any staff member, and it does not specify how many women in Gaetz’s office approved it.
He ambiguously signed “Women in US Congressman Matt Gaetz’s Office Speak Out in Defense of Representative Gaetz.” https://t.co/lwo76hmTvl

He is under investigation by the FBI and the DOJ.
They can dismiss the allegations, but they cannot dismiss the facts. https://t.co/q7jwMxWytL

All other aspects of that aside, it is very funny for a congressman to release news from BREAKING and that is a statement from his office. https://t.co/7ZT7wev77B
