Massive Level 5 Fire Hits Downtown Baltimore Restaurant

BREAKING NEWS. PROBABLY TEN MINUTES AGO. AND IN THE MEANTIME, WE’VE SEEN THE CONDITIONS HAVE BECOME EVEN SMOKER. LOOK AT THESE BIG PLUGS OF SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE BUILDING. AGAIN, IT APPEARS TO BE COMING FROM THE ETHIOPIAN CUISINE BAR AND RESTAURANT. I LOOKED OVER THE CORNER OF THE SQUARE, AND I COULD SEE SOME OF THESE FLAMES AS THE FIREFIGHTERS RUSHED TO PUT THEM OUT. YOU SEE THEM PUTTING ANOTHER LADDER UP HERE, ANOTHER FIREFIGHTER GETTING UP TO TRY TO GET IN FROM THE TOP AS WELL. WE SEE THEM RUSHING TO GIVE MORE WATER. WE SEE THEM POURING WATER ON IT FROM ABOVE. TOWER 12 OVER THERE ON LOMBARD STREET. WE SEE MORE FIRE TRUCKS COMING IN AND WE JUST NOTICED IN THE LAST FIVE MINUTES THAT THE FIRE TRUCKS ARE ACTUALLY RIGHT NEXT TO WHERE THIS HAPPENED. SO THAT’S HOW THEY GOT TO GET HERE. SO FAST. BUT AGAIN, IT LOOKS LIKE THERE’S MAYBE A DOZEN OR MORE FIRE TRUCKS RIGHT HERE ON SCENE. FIREFIGHTERS ARE CONTINUING TO COME IN TRYING TO PUT THIS OUT AS FAST AS POSSIBLE. THIS IS THE INTERSECTION OF UTAH STREET AND LOMBARD STREET. SO THE MARRIOTT IS RIGHT HERE. WE SEE THE GODDESS LOOKS LIKE A SHOW BAR THERE ARE SOME STRUCTURES NEXT TO THE RESTAURANT AND BAR. I DON’T KNOW IF THOSE THINGS ARE AFFECTED RIGHT NOW, BUT ONCE AGAIN, FIREFIGHTERS ARE WORKING TO PUT THESE FLAMES OUT AND CONTROL THAT SMOKE AS FAST AS POSSIBLE. WE ALSO SEE PEOPLE THAT WERE PROBABLY COMING INTO THE AREA JUST AT THE O’S GAME EARLY. THEY’RE HERE TOO. THE CONDITIONS ARE GETTING PRETTY SMOKY HERE AS FIREFIGHTERS WORK TO PUT THIS OUT. NOW, IF YOU’RE DRIVING THROUGH THIS AREA, YOU DEFINITELY WANT TO PREPARE FOR ROAD BLOCKS AND ROAD CLOSURES HERE ALONG LOMBARD AND UTAH STREET, FIREFIGHTERS ARE COMPLETELY BLOCKING THIS OUT RIGHT NOW, AS YOU CAN IMAGINE, AS THEY WORK TO GET IT UNDER CONTROL. YOU CAN SEE A FIREFIGHTER CLIMBING UP THAT LADDER RIGHT NOW, TRYING TO GET IT UP SO THAT HE CAN ATTACK IT FROM THE TOP FROM MULTIPLE ANGLES TO GET CONTROL. OH MY GOD. IF YOU LOOK UP IN THE SKY, YOU CAN SEE HOW MUCH SMOKE IS GETTING. JUST IN THE MINUTES THAT WE’VE BEEN TALKING TO YOU. SO A VERY SERIOUS SITUATION IS HAPPENING HERE. AGAIN, WE’RE STILL TRYING TO DETERMINE IF ANYBODY WAS INSIDE OR IF ANYBODY IS STILL INSIDE. WHEN WE GOT ON THE SCENE, WE SAW FIREFIGHTERS TRYING TO BREAK WINDOWS. I DON’T KNOW IF THEY WERE TRYING TO GET ANYBODY OUT. WE DIDN’T SEE THEM GET ANYBODY OUT, SO I DON’T KNOW IF ANYBODY WAS INSIDE. IT’S STILL A LITTLE EARLY, BUT WE’RE WORKING TO LEARN THAT INFORMATION AS WELL. OBVIOUSLY AN ACTIVE SCENE HERE, SO WE’RE NOT SURE YET WHAT STARTED THIS FIRE. BUT ONCE AGAIN, WE’RE TRYING TO WORK AND BRING YOU THOSE LATEST DETAILS LIVE ON THE NEWS AND YOU CAN ALSO CHECK OUR APP, AS SOON AS WE GET THOSE LATEST DETAILS, WE’LL BE SURE TO BRING THEM TO YOU. BUT YOU’RE LOOKING AT A VERY ACTIVE SCENE AS FIREFIGHTERS TRY TO CONTROL THESE FLAMES. OH MY GOD. LOOK AT THE WINDOW OVER THERE BY THE PIANO. IT LOOKS LIKE THERE’S MORE SMOKE OVER THERE AS THESE FLAMES ARE GOING UP. WE’LL JUST KEEP AN EYE ON THAT. WE CAN SEE THE FLAMES FROM THIS ANGLE AS WELL. SO WE’LL KEEP AN EYE ON THAT AGAIN. WE’RE GOING TO WORK TO GIVE YOU THE DETAILS TO MAKE SURE NO ONE’S INJURED IN THIS SITUATION. AND WE’LL BRING YOU THOSE DETAILS ON AIR AND ONLINE AS SOON AS WE CAN.
