Mass shooting in Chicago’s Washington Park leaves 9 shot, 2 fatally – NBC Chicago

Chicago experienced a violent night on Tuesday when a mass shooting in Washington Park left at least seven injured and at least two dead.
At a press conference on Tuesday evening, officials said a verbal altercation between two groups in the park escalated and the two groups fired multiple shots at each other, resulting in several people being shot dead.
Witnesses tell NBC 5 that a group was having a barbecue in Washington Park when a gunman opened fire.
Police say the victims are between 19 and 46 years old.
Authorities say Chicago police received an alert at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday from ShotSpotter, a system that detects and alerts law enforcement to illegal shootings, for the 500 block of E. 51st St., near from the Hyde Park area of the city.
Authorities said a total of nine people were shot, two of them fatally.
A 30-year-old man was shot in the leg and taken to a nearby hospital in good condition. A second male victim, 39, was shot in the ankle and taken to a nearby hospital, also in good condition. Another victim, a 27-year-old woman, was also listed in good condition after being taken to a nearby hospital with a gunshot wound to her thigh.
Two other male victims were last listed in good condition – a 22-year-old man, who was shot in the elbow, and a 19-year-old man, who was shot in the shoulder.
Police later said two other victims, a 33-year-old woman and a 46-year-old man, also suffered gunshot wounds; the woman was shot in the arm and the man was grazed in the leg. Both were last listed in good condition.
A 43-year-old man was shot in the back of the head and pronounced dead after being taken to a nearby hospital. Another male victim, 20, suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the body and was taken in critical condition to a nearby hospital on Tuesday evening, police said.
At 11:16 p.m., this victim was later pronounced dead from his injuries.
Authorities did not provide an update on the arrests, or whether the suspects are in custody.
