Massachusetts has the fifth-best education system in the nation for 2023, according to a report by Scholaroo. Four New England states were in the top five list.

Scholaroo is a scholarship research service that also publishes education-related data reports. Its Best and Worst School Systems 2023 score is based on three categories: student success, student safety, and school quality.

The state’s education system ranked first in student achievement, fourteenth in student safety, and sixth in student quality. He scored a total of 83, putting him three points behind New Jersey, which placed first overall.

Student success accounted for 25 points of the total, student quality 35 points, and student safety 40 points. To measure student success, Schoolaroo used 40 considerations, including test scores, high school dropout rates, and college attendance rates.

Schoolaroo calculated student quality using metrics such as amount spent on students, student-teacher ratio, and health education curriculum. He considered factors such as the rate of bullying, exposure to illegal drugs, and rates of sexual assault to determine student safety.

In a breakdown of these categories, Massachusetts was found to have the third-lowest dropout rate, the second-highest math test scores, and the fifth-highest dollar spent per student.

The state’s teachers also have one of the best pay rates in the nation, and students have the second-highest average ACT scores in any state, according to a statement. The state also has the second highest number of public high schools ranked among the top 100 in the nation.

Three other New England states – New Hampshire, Vermont and Connecticut – respectively took places two through four in the rankings.

New Hampshire’s overall score is tied with New Jersey’s – 86 – but the state ranked third in student success, sixth in student safety and first in student quality, slightly behind fourth. , New Jersey’s first and fifth respective rankings.
