Mason Mount rejects £200,000 Chelsea deal with reps wanting same pay as team-mate Raheem Sterling

Mason Mount has reportedly turned down a new contract offer from Chelsea worth over £200,000 a week.

The Blues midfielder currently has just 18 months on his contract, and it is understood the two sides are a long way from reaching an agreement, according to the Daily Mail.

The offer was turned down a week before the star flew to the 2022 World Cup with England, with Chelsea agreeing to put negotiations on hold until his return.

However, it is understood the talks are far from settled, and the situation could be even more difficult should the 23-year-old impress in Qatar like he did in their first 6-2 win.

With just a year and a half remaining on his current deal, Chelsea risk seeing their star’s transfer value dwindle as well, despite interest from Liverpool and Juventus.

It is understood Mount’s representatives have demanded the star be paid the same as team-mate Raheem Sterling, who is on £300,000-a-week.

Meanwhile, team-mate Reece James recently signed a new six-year contract which has seen his wages rise to £250,000-a-week.

Mount is currently one of Chelsea’s lowest paid players with a salary of £85,000 a week.

Mount is currently still on the same salary he received shortly after returning from his loan spell at then Championship side Derby County three years ago before becoming a regular at the Premiership crew.

He is set to feature again for England when they take on Wales – live on talkSPORT – on Tuesday November 29.
