In addition to revealing that it was “Agatha All Along,” “WandaVision” marked another big landing in its seventh episode.
After Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) walked through Westview Hex Barrier one too many times, her cells were rewritten and she was finally granted her powers. Speaking to Marvel.com recently, Parris said she knows what’s going to happen since her first Marvel reunion.
“When I sat down and talked to the [‘WandaVision’ team], they explained to me that through Monica’s compassion, through her empathy and willingness to put her own body on the line, she sacrifices herself for what she believes is the greatest good. [to go back to Westview]. And it happens by going through that energy field all too often, essentially, ”the actor said.
In addition to empowering her, the scene serves as a moment for Monica to mourn the loss of her mother, as memories of her past seem to surround her during her fight through the Anomaly.
She comes out the other side stronger, and apparently “WandaVision” has made a little change to show it.
Once she crosses the Hex barrier, Monica immediately confronts Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen), telling her that SWORD Acting Director Hayward (Josh Stamberg) is trying to bring her down. Unfortunately, Wanda doesn’t really want to hear this.
So she magically pulls Monica out of the house, just like she has done before. But this time, Monica isn’t thrown like a rag doll. She gets a superhero landing – although, according to Parris, that’s not always the case.
“I was originally supposed to be thrown to the ground,” Parris told Marvel.com. “And then we kind of got the idea of, well, what if Monica was able to harness the powers a bit now.” And so we landed on this landing. It was the first moment I really felt like, ‘Ooh, a superhero.’ “
Considering that Parris was chosen by fans as Monica Rambeau years before she got the part, the moment has been a long time coming. And it makes a huge difference to show Monica some control over her super abilities.
Judging from the episode’s post-credit scene, she’ll need it ASAP.
