Conservative Mark Ronchetti won New Mexico’s Republican gubernatorial primary, sweeping with more than 60% of the votes and votes still in the balance.
On Tuesday, Ronchetti won the gubernatorial primary, ensuring he will face New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) in November’s midterm elections.
Other primary candidates include State Representative Rebecca Dow (right), United States Air Force veteran Jay Block, conservative activist Greg Zanetti and the former mayor Ethel Maharg.
“What our message has been to target this administration that has long since stopped listening to the people of this state, and you see what’s happening with gas prices across the country,” Ronchetti told SiriusXM Patriot. Breitbart News Saturday.
“Here in New Mexico, we’re sitting in Las Cruces right now, just off the southern border, and we’re talking about gas prices at $4.50 to $4.70 a gallon,” continued Ronchetti. “And this governor tried in our last legislative session to raise gas prices by 35 cents a gallon under a clean fuel standard that is so tone deaf and ridiculous.”
In a poll, Ronchetti said he was “tied” with Grisham, but noted that New Mexico had a history of electing Republican governors despite its Democratic leanings in national elections.
Ronchetti previously worked as chief meteorologist for New Mexico affiliates CBS and FOX. He and his wife, Krysty, have two daughters.
The midterm elections will take place on November 8.
