Marjorie Taylor Greene’s new intern appeared to tolerate pedophilia

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), who has baselessly accused many of her fellow lawmakers of being “pro-pedophiles,” has hired a new intern, a 37-year-old known for two things: his rise to fame for being toxic online and his fall from the public eye after appearing to condone pedophilia.

The intern in question: far-right hatemonger Milo Yiannopoulos.

Right Wing Watch reported the hiring on Monday, following a sighting earlier this year of Yiannopoulos alongside Greene at a press conference.

Greene confirmed the hire to The Daily Beast via a spokesperson on Monday.

“I have an intern who was raped by a priest as a young teenager, who was gay, offended everyone at one point, brought his life back to Jesus and the Church and changed his life,” Greene told the Beast. “Great story!”

Yiannopoulos, a former darling of the far-right, is a dubious recruit for anyone – especially for a lawmaker who (like a growing number of other members of her party) says she is very concerned about the threat predators pose to ” prepare” the children, and who accused various Democrats and Republicans of being “pro-pedophiles”.

In 2017, after making numerous racist, sexist and transphobic remarks, Yiannopoulos finally had his appearances and a lucrative book deal canceled when a video surfaced in which he appeared to condone sex between adults and 13-year-old boys. .

In this video, Yiannopoulos, who until recently identified as gay, told a podcast interviewer that “we hang on to this kind of child abuse stuff”, and argued that in “some of these relationships between younger boys and older men…these older men help these younger boys discover who they are and give them safety and security and give them love.

Yiannopoulos later said the video was selectively edited and condemned pedophilia as “a despicable and disgusting crime, perhaps the worst”. However, other videos have emerged of him making equally equivocal claims.

In another video, Yiannopoulos argued that having sex with a 13-year-old does not constitute pedophilia because “pedophilia is attraction to children who have not reached puberty. Pedophilia is an attraction for people who do not yet have functional sexual organs and who have not yet reached puberty.

This is a stark contrast to Greene’s stated beliefs. Earlier Monday, before news of her new hire broke, she tweeted, “We must protect children from predators and child molesters in every way possible.”

In related news, Capitol Hill interns do not have to pass a background check.
