Maritime employment assistance extended for three years – Economy

“There is the delicate subject of maritime employment. As such, I know that the continuation of maritime aid was expected. Established in 2021, it will be extended for a period of three years ”, assured the President of the Republic to the foundations of the economy of the sea, this Tuesday, September 14, in Nice, in reference to the reimbursement by the State of social charges paid by companies. A major challenge: nearly 1,000 ships employ 16,000 sailors, or 100,000 direct and indirect jobs in France.

“We are going to fund a new envelope [pour l’économie de la mer] as part of the recovery plan to help move forward. It’s pragmatism, there have been expressed needs and very good management, ”Emmanuel Macron said a little earlier.

“Trade and fishing are opportunities”

“Trade and fishing are opportunities; a biodiversity reserve a geopolitical subject. France has an asset: the exclusive economic zone, which we defend legally and politically. The maritime space is one of our spaces where our conflicts are being renewed. When we talk about French sovereignty over this area, we are talking about the capacity to protect it, ”the Head of State also said.

“In 2020, 46 ships were ordered and we decided to reinvest in the strategic project of our French Navy. We are covering a space that we are going to protect, which is not the case for all powers, ”he continued.
