Marc Cucurella: Chelsea FC close in on £52.5m move for Brighton defender

The Blues seem ready to agree a no-cost package and a contract until 2028 for the left-handed defender and Spanish international.

It follows Manchester City walking away from protracted talks over Cucurella after having their £40million offer turned down to work on other potential targets.

Thomas Tuchel has long been an admirer of the wing-back, who has been scouted and interested in Chelsea since before the German was appointed manager.

Brighton have since denied suggestions that a deal has already been agreed on Cucurella.

“Contrary to inaccurate reports from many media tonight, no agreement has been reached with any club to sell Marc Cucarella,” the club said in a short statement posted on social media on Wednesday evening.

Meanwhile, Blues defender Levi Colwill is set to join Brighton on a separate deal.

The fee for Colwill is believed to be around £25m with a buyout clause set at around £50m, with final details still being discussed. Chelsea were reluctant to let him go permanently, so he negotiated the clause.

Brighton are now ready to beat Crystal Palace, Southampton and Leicester in the race for the 19-year-old academy graduate, who spent last season on loan in the Championship at Huddersfield.
